CAEM continues to advocate on behalf of its membership and the industry as a whole. We actively participate in significant industry working groups who are meeting with various government departments on key files such as the changes to the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) project and its impact on the trade and consumer show industry. CAEM is also involved in communications with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) regarding the backlog of visas as it relates to business events – if you missed the webinar we co-hosted with Meetings Means Business Canada (MMBC) featuring representatives from IRCC that happened in June, you can watch it here.
One of the key messages CAEM continues to make clear is that our industry has not fully recovered from the pandemic and continues to face challenges. Recently, along with the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) and over 200 chambers of commerce, tourism organizations and industry groups, CAEM sent a letter to the Minister of Finance outlining that our industry has not quite yet returned to ‘business as usual' and that one way to help our sector would be to extend the Canadian Emergency Business Account (CEBA) loan repayment deadline to December 31, 2025. You can read CAEM's letter here.
