Alberta – Important Announcement for the Exhibition Industry

Dr. Hinshaw, Chief Medical Officer of Health for the province of Alberta, announced on July 16, 2020, that indoor exhibits and trade shows can officially reopen.  Subsequent to this announcement, the government of Alberta officially published their relaunch guidance for trade shows and exhibits. This guidance document can be reviewed here: https://www.alberta.ca/assets/documents/covid-19-relaunch-guidance-trade-shows-exhibits.pdf. The tireless commitment and leadership displayed by team members of the CAEM Exposition Recovery Taskforce played an integral role in this favourable decision. Now that the exhibition sector has been given the green light to reopen in Alberta, we must all come together to demonstrate to the public and to government that health & safety is our number one priority. We welcome members to use CAEM’s Safe Reopening Guidelines for Alberta, as a supplement to the Province’s guidelines, to build their own safe reopening plans for their organizations.

Last week, CAEM had a productive conversation with Mr. Deepak Anand, MPP for the Mississauga – Malton riding and Special Advisor to the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. Mr. Anand has agreed to facilitate and host an industry roundtable with the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development. Twenty industry leaders representing different facets of our sector will be assembled to discuss the reopening guidelines we presented to government and to provide input on how exhibitions are a distinct business sector. The conversation will be an opportunity for us to be heard at the government level and we are encouraged to have the opportunity.
