What You Need to Know This Week

Federal
- CAEM’s Exposition Recovery Taskforce Co-Chairs have been meeting regularly with our new Public Affairs firm, Crestview Strategy, to advance the process of advocating for sector-specific emergency funding for CAEM members. To start, we will be surveying the industry, to gain a clear understanding of the economic impact of the sector from show producers, venues, suppliers and exhibitors. Illustrating COVID’s impact on jobs in our sector will be vital in formulating our ask, and illustrating the role that we can play in the economic recovery will also be key. Please look out for this survey early next week. Your participation is appreciated and most essential.
- CAEM continues to be an active member of the Hardest Hit Coalition. Last week, key members of this coalition met to discuss next steps to collectively advocate for more relief and support measures for businesses in the tourism, hospitality, arts, festivals and business events sectors.
Ontario
- CAEM’s President has been invited by The Ministry of Heritage, Sport Tourism and Culture Industries to be part of a new Meeting and Event Spaces Working Group. This working group will be meeting regularly, with the mandate of developing an updated Sector Plan / Guidance Document for public health officials to review, when the province is ready to consider further reopening proposals. CAEM applauds the government’s proactive approach to consult and work with industry on a viable reopening and recovery plan for the sector. As an active member of this working group, you can count of CAEM to continue defending the exhibition sector’s interests and championing our safe reopening plan.
- On November 3rd, the Ontario government announced the Property Tax and Energy Cost Rebates Program. CAEM has responded to this announcement, calling on government to expand the eligibility criteria immediately, to include all stakeholders in the exhibition sector. Click here to review a copy of this position letter.
- CAEM continues to work closely with partner associations, including TIAO, to advocate on behalf of the greater tourism, hospitality and business events sector. Earlier this week, CAEM signed a joint letter, along with other industry associations and leaders, communicating our joint concerns to the recent decision to move Toronto, Ottawa, York and the Peel regions into a modified stage two and the processes in which these decisions were made and the rationale behind them. CAEM Toolkit and Resources
- As the exhibition sector starts to reopen in parts of the country, CAEM is committed to providing members with the tools and resources necessary to successfully navigate reopening and recovery. This includes the creation of a Reopening Toolkit with valuable resources like a COVID-19 General Readiness Checklist, a Safe Reopening Guideline Template, as well as Exhibitor and Supplier Safety Acknowledgement Forms. These resources are available for the Alberta market, where trade shows have been given the green light to reopen. We will be updating and customizing these resources for each of the other Provinces as official reopening decisions and guidelines are released. Please click here and login to your CAEM profile to access this member benefit.
