Exhibition Place is thrilled to announce that Enercare Centre has been named among EXHIBITOR Magazine's 2021 Centers of Excellence

Honoring North America’s best convention centers for trade shows and events, the Centers of Excellence awards recognize the best large and small trade show venues based on a variety of criteria within five different categories. All North American convention centers were eligible to apply. Applicants were evaluated using a variety of criteria in five primary categories: Facility & Functionality, Location & Accommodations, Service & Execution, Expansions & Upgrades, and Honors & Awards. The evaluation also included a survey of event planners, show organizers, and exhibit managers who have recently hosted (or exhibited at) trade shows and events within each facility, as well as a review of entrants’ event spaces, primary selling points, nearby attractions, and innovations, conducted by a panel of corporate exhibit managers.

Exhibition Place is proud to receive the Safe Travels Stamp

Exhibition Place is pleased to report that they have received the Safe Travels Stamp designation from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO). The WTTC and TIAO have created a self-certified Safe Travels Stamp based on worldwide industry protocols the WTTC has put together for every aspect of the hospitality and tourism sector. The specially designed stamp will allow travelers to recognize governments and companies around the world which have adopted globally standardized health and hygiene global protocols – so consumers can experience ‘Safe Travels’.

What You Need to Know This Week

On September 21st, CAEM joined the Coalition of Hardest Hit Businesses (CHHB), which launched its campaign for the CEWS (Canadian Emergency Wage Subsidy) to be extended into 2021 for businesses unable to move into recovery.  A few days later, in the Speech from the Throne, the Government of Canada announced that it plans to extend the CEWS through to the summer of 2021.  Although details about the extension have not been released, the Government stated that it intends to “work with businesses and labour to ensure the program meets the needs of the health and economic situation as it evolves”.  CAEM will continue to stay active in this collation and provide updates to members on this development.

Ontario

With the assistance of Public Affairs Strategist Amir Remtulla, CAEM has secured a meeting with the office of the Premier, the office of the Ministry of Economic Development and the office of the Ministry of Tourism.  Our objectives for this meeting are to present the massive economic impact of the exposition sector in Ontario, to present our business model and the retail and commercial nature of our operations, to request a collaborative approach with Government to safely reopen our sector in a manner similar to malls, public markets and big box stores, and to communicate the further devastation that a prolonged shutdown of our sector will have on jobs, lost revenues, business solvency and the economy.

British Columbia

Several members of CAEM's Exposition Recovery Taskforce have been invited, along with other leaders in the live events sector, to participate in discussions with the Province and Dr. Bonnie Henry's office, to develop plans to execute “test events” of tiered sizing for gatherings, sporting events and performances, with the goal of reviewing the data and determining what is manageable, in a staged systematic process, in order to establish a timeline toward increasing sizes of events (when it is safe to do so).  CAEM applauds the Province's collaborative approach to engage in this meaningful dialogue and to work with industry on a recovery plan.

Federal

As mentioned at the September AGM, in addition to our reopening advocacy, CAEM’s Exposition Recovery Taskforce is now turning additional attention and resources toward advocating for sector-specific funding for the exhibition industry.  We are currently reviewing proposals from Government Relations agencies, to help us with this advocacy work, including collecting industry data that identifies the impact of COVID-19 on the sector, developing key messages for the Federal Government to build a case for financial relief, arranging meetings with key influencers in Federal Government, and raising the profile of the exhibition sector among professional public servants who are responsible for designing future support programs.
