Lifetime Achievement Award – Helen McDowell

This Lifetime Achievement Award recipient has dedicated more than 40 years to advancing Canada’s meetings, events, and exposition industry. Throughout an accomplished career, they have successfully led some of the country’s largest conferences and trade shows, including major events in the industrial health and safety and dental sectors, while consistently finding new ways to enhance the attendee, exhibitor, and sponsor experience.

Their impact can be seen in a long list of accomplishments, from growing annual sponsorship revenues to as much as $450,000, to bringing tradeshow sales in-house and achieving significant growth in exhibition participation. They introduced innovative initiatives such as continuing education course ticketing, high-profile keynote speaker programs featuring renowned leaders and public figures, and engaging tradeshow activations that elevated the overall event experience. Their ability to identify opportunities and implement meaningful improvements helped strengthen the value and reputation of the events under their leadership year after year.

Beyond their professional achievements, this recipient has been a passionate advocate for education and professional development. A long-time supporter of CAEM and the Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM) designation, they encouraged members of their own team to pursue certification and industry leadership opportunities, helping develop the next generation of event professionals. Their mentorship, guidance, and willingness to share knowledge have had a lasting impact on countless colleagues throughout the industry.

Known for their warmth, humour, and ability to build meaningful relationships, this individual has earned the respect and admiration of peers, suppliers, and industry partners alike. Their legacy extends far beyond the events they managed; it lives on in the people they mentored, the standards they elevated, and the stronger, more connected industry they helped create.
