Member Spotlight – Sherry Kirkpatrick
After nearly 35 years of service to Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS), CAEM Past President, Sherry Kirkpatrick retired at the end of November 2019. She will continue to work on a part-time contract basis with WSPS through the production of their Annual Conference in May 2020.
Sherry joined CAEM in 2006 and joined the Board of Directors in June 2008. She Co-Chaired the 2009 Conference in Deerhurst and then moved on to Co-Chair the Education Committee where she was instrumental in creating and planning the CAEM Executive Forum. Sherry’s leadership and commitment to CAEM led to the Nominating Committee calling on her in the Fall of 2011, to step onto the Executive Committee in the role of 2nd Vice President to fill an unexpected vacancy. At the same time, Sherry also assumed the position of Chair of the CAEM Health & Safety Task Force and over the course of the next few years led the process of adding essential elements to the Health & Safety Guidelines as well as a revamp of the Health & Safety Course and its companion materials.
Sherry continued to illustrate her exceptional leadership skills when she assumed the role of President in 2014. During her time as President, she led a successful strategic planning process that helped to refocus and streamline the goals of CAEM with member engagement at the forefront.
Sherry is not one for the limelight and prefers to work behind the scenes to make things happen. She has a knack for getting to the point and quickly developing and implementing solutions. She is always eager to lend a hand and her expertise to any project. There are countless CAEM efforts that she has assisted with and is always happy to do so without accolade or recognition. A perfect example of this is the role Sherry is playing in connecting CAEM with the Ontario Ministry of Labour.
Thank you Sherry for your passion for CAEM and the key role you have played in moving our association forward. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement!
