Maintaining or Achieving Your CEM Designation Has Never Been Easier!

By Kyle Dugan, CEM and Sarah Borisko, CEM – Co-Chairs CEM Certification Council

You’ve worked hard to achieve your CEM designation, and keeping it active is extremely important for your role in this ever changing industry. Recertification is required every three years, by earning your 15 credit hours and renewing your IAEE (International Association of Exhibitions and Events) or CAEM (Canadian Association of Exposition Management) membership. Your CEM designation is a great asset to your career in our fantastic and evolving industry by gaining new education, industry experience and connections.

One of the best ways to help achieve your 15 credit hours is being a volunteer on any of the numerous CAEM committees. It is a terrific way to get involved, expand your experience and connections within the industry. Some committees may take more time than others but, you can determine which committee is most suitable for you, there are plenty of options. Another great route to get those credits is taking part at the annual CAEM Conference, by attending multiple education sessions or even possibly being an instructor/speaker your credits will add up quickly.

Keeping your own timeline for your recertification is an excellent way to decide early on how you will obtain the required credits. But, within the last year Jennifer Potter, CEM Program Manager (IAEE) has started to send out a friendly email reminder approximately 6 months prior the expiry date of your certification. This is an added bonus to keep everything on track, she also includes the summary of the applicable recertification requirements.
